Good Questions, Better Answers All parents want their children to be successful and research indicates that their involvement makes a difference. Staying "in touch" with your child's school day will communicate that you care and keep you informed about day to day events.
The Iowa Parent Information Resource Center has a set of great brochures titled, “Questions to ask your kids after, “How was school today?” Asking good questions is a simple way to stay informed about what is happening in the classroom. It’s also a starting point for supporting learning outside of the classroom. Here are a few of their suggestions: - What was the most interesting thing you learned? - If you got one wish about school, what would it be? - How would your teachers say the day went? - What challenged you most today? - What makes it a good/bad day at school? - If you could have one class be longer/shorter what would it be? - What was the nicest thing you did for someone today?
Browse through these booklets and select questions that are most appropriate for the age of your child. Or, consider asking your child to select a question from the book to answer together.
