Iowa Sustaining Parent Involvement Network iSPIN is an intensive program offered through the Iowa PIRC that is designed to increase student achievement through parental involvement and family engagement. iSPIN began in 2005 as a program developed by Iowa PIRC called SPIN. The SPIN program was focused in the AEA 267 area and required that an external facilitator work with each school to help develop and implement a family engagement plan. In order to make this program successful across the state, Iowa PIRC set out to find a supplement to the SPIN program so that schools could work more independently on their goal of increasing family engagement for student success without the need of the external facilitator. This search led to the partnership with the Academic Development Institute. Utilizing the lessons learned from the SPIN schools and the Academic Development Institute’s program called Solid Foundation, Iowa PIRC developed the current iSPIN program. The materials in Solid Foundation provide a structure that now allows for a school staff member to act as the facilitator of their school-base School Community Council. Iowa PIRC has worked closely with such nationally recognized experts in family engagement as Sam Redding, Karen Mapp, Anne Henderson, Kathleen Hoover-Dempsey, and Nancy Hill in the development of the iSPIN program. These national experts continue to assist Iowa PIRC in the ongoing development and over-sight of our iSPIN program. Iowa State Map shows PIRC's Sustaining Parent Involvement (SPIN) sites and the extensive Iowa Sustaining Parent Involvement Network (iSPIN) sites that PIRC works with for 3 years. This map also includes the Partnering in Communities (PIC) program provided in collaboration with ISU extension. To learn more about the iSPIN program:
